Why you should not shower everyday in winter
jamuna news desk: Many of us are shirkers when it comes to taking a bath in cold wintry mornings. But shirkers can also be good vindicators. Skin experts over the globe are saying that daily showers can take a toll on our skins as we are showering way more than necessary. Here we vindicate how daily bathing can be harmful to us and why we need to stop showering every winter morning.
#Boston dermatologist Dr Ranella Hirsch has said that the reason people bathe everyday has more to do with social norms than being dirty. Studies have shown that our skin has more effective mechanism to clean itself. If you are not gyming and sweating everyday or your nature of work is such that you become mucky, stay
clear of the waters.
#If you are taking long hot water baths every winter morning to provide your body some warmth and comfort, you are doing it more harm than good. These can make skin flaky and dry and strip it of the natural oils that it produces to stay moisturised and protected. If bathing everyday is a necessity, use dry soaps and shampoos. Also, limit your shower time to ten minutes and no more.
#The skin produces good bacteria to keep it healthy and protect it against the toxins of chemical products. You rip your skin of these when you take a bath everyday or more. Limit the number of times you take bath in winter to once in two or three days, say dermatologists.
#Daily hot showers can ruin your nails as they cause them to expand, peel and chip off. Nails tend to absorb water while you bathe and this will make them lose their natural moisture and oils, making them dry and weak.
#More of a social concern than personal, a study in IS 1172 said that an average person is consuming 55 litres of water every day for bathing only. Even if you switch to showering from bathing, which consumes less water, you are still wasting a lot of water.
